I'm so back.

just because

I'm so pissed right now. Nalelechehan ako sa mga tao. What's more frustrating is that I have no one to blame for all this shit. Grrr. It really sucks when things don't go your way.

To lighten up my mood, I watched a whole new batch of Korean flicks. Sorry for those who are already fed up with my going gaga over Koreans. I'm just merely suggesting what good films to watch. =)

Sad Movie

Chronicles the lives of four very different couples as they deal with love, loss and life in romantic, loosely interconnected stories -- A 30-year-old firefighter looking for just the right ring for his fiance; A long-term relationship between a guy who cannot find a job and a wonderful and long suffering woman who is beginning to tire of their relationship; An 8-year-old boy who desperately misses his career-minded mother; A deaf girl with a terrible burn on her face falls in love with a painter, dreaming of a perfect love. All of these situations are filled with heartache and sometimes despair, but like love, it comes in many forms. In many ways, love must end for it to begin again.

[movie synopsis from http://www.hiff.org/]

This movie contains four stories where all ended sadly, hence the title, Sad Movie.
Essence of love and family is evident in the film. It will make you stop and reflect you own life. Some of the movie's message is appreciating your love ones and cherishing the time you spent with them.
I so love one of the characters. Super hot! Though he’s not so cute in his other movies, I still like him. He's the only chinito that I like. Uhm, well except for Mong Alcaraz (member of Sandwich and Chicosci).
Lastly, what I love most about this movie is how aptly that some of the characters died (see my header, “happy-ending hater”). It gave a touching effect to the viewers. But I still vote for ..Ing as the most tear-jerking Korean motion picture.

One of the familiar face is the lead girl in A Love to Kill. My classmate said that his love interest in the movie is Rain's rival in the mentioned Koreanovela. (I found it so unbelievable because he's not good looking in that show.)

Too Beautiful to Lie

Kim Ha Neul plays Yu Young-Ju, a con-artist who uses her skills at deception to get herself out of jail on parole so that she can visit her elder sister, who is getting married. However, while on the way there on the train, she runs into an old-fashioned physician Choi Hee-Chul, played by Kang Dong Wan.
Hee-Chul is quite the country bumpkin, being the only son of the mayor of a sleepy countryside town and is on his way to marry his sweetheart. However, he manages to drop his engagement ring awkwardly under the legs of a sleeping Young-Ju and while trying to retrieve it, creates a hilarious misunderstanding.
After clearing up the misunderstanding with Young-Ju, he gets up to leave, but Young-Ju notices a pick-pocket stealing his ring at that very moment. Not wanting to get into worse trouble with the law, Young-Ju gets out of the train to retrieve the ring, which she successfully does. However, while doing so, she misses the train and leaves her bag which contains her sister’s wedding present in it.

This leads her to go to Hee-Chul's hometown to get her bag back. While carrying his engagement ring, she unwittingly gets mistaken by Hee-Chul’s family as his girlfriend. This leads to a lot of hilarious moments where Young-Ju even manages to convince Hee-Chul's family that she is pregnant with his child. The situation gets more complicated when Hee-Chul finally returns home after failing in his marriage proposal because he has lost his ring. He is shocked to find everyone treating Young-Ju as his wife-to-be and even blaming him for ignoring her after getting her pregnant. Let's just say Hee-Chul gets beaten up a lot by his family for this little bit of trickery on Young-Ju’s part.
However, following the standard romantic comedy plot formula, the bitter enemies that are Hee-Chul and Young-Ju start to fall for each other and Hee-Chul begins to see that behind Young-Ju’s deceptive and cunning exterior, there is actually a sweet and vulnerable inside. However, the truth is revealed to the family, which causes yet more complications. But for those who like happy endings, do not be dismayed, for everything works out well in the end.

My favorite part is when Hee-chul sang Aubrey. I was like, "Is that his real voice?" But I realize that he still have that Korean accent so I was convinced that he really have that good singing voice.

The movie has this smooth flow but they lack some climax. Some scenes wasn't explained well. Thus, leaving you wondering why things turned out that way.

He was Cool

The film is based on a novel written by Gulyeoni. The story is about a cheerful high school student named Han Ye Won. She is a sweet, clumsy and warm girl. On the other side there is Ji Eun Song, a student from vocational school and well-known as a bully. He is hot- tempered and rude but deep inside he is longing to be loved.

One day, clumsily, Ye-Won leaves a message on the school website to reply to Ji Eun Song's impolite message. She is shocked when someone calls her mobile and threatens her. Gradually, her best friend, Lee Kyung Won, tells her who Ji Eun Song is. Ji Eun Song sends Han Ye-Won a message on her mobile: he will wait for her in front of the main gate. She is so scared that she and Lee Kyung Won decide to jump over the school wall. Unfortunately, the moment Ye-Won jumps, Ji Eun Song is standing exactly at the other side of wall. She falls on him and accidentally their lips meet. Raising his voice, Eun Song asks for her responsibility; she is astonished. His friend explains that Eun Song has never even held hands with a girl. Since she is the first girl who kisses him, as a consequence she must marry him.

The story continues very fast, at the beginning Ye-won doesn’t have any feelings for Eun Song, she even rejects his invitation to come to his birthday party. Unknowingly, Eun Song has fallen in love with her; but he is not the kind of guy who knows how to express his inner feelings. He is jealous when Ye-Won is approached by other guys but he doesn’t know how to be with someone he loves.

Although he is rude and bad-tempered, Eun Song always pardons Ye-Won’s faults and clumsiness. One thing he couldn't bear was when he found out that Ye-Won went out with Kim Han Sung, his senior and the one he hates a lot. The broken-hearted Ji-Eun Song decides to leave Korea following his mother to the USA. Will Ye-Won reunite with Eun Song or accept Han Sung's love? I will leave the answer for you.

[movie synopsis from http://www.spcnet.tv]

My most favorite kilig film. You just have to watch it.
Eun Song was portrayed by Johnny of Endless Love (Autumn in my Heart), Ye-Won is Noreen in Attic Cat and Han Sung is my chinito crush from Sad Movie.

100 Days with Mr. Arrogant

It features Ericka of Memories of Bali and Daniel of Wonderful Life. It's another kilig flick, but if I'm going to rate all of them this film will get the last spot.

The Beast and the Beauty

Hae-Ju is a beautiful blind woman who finds a doctor to restore her sight. But this terrifies her boyfriend Dong-Gun, who has a facial scar, and can't bear the thought of her seeing it. He moves to Hawaii, and she is left hanging...will he return?

[movie synopsis from http://www.hkflix.com]

This movie broke chain of cliches that good-looking boy gets good-looking girl. I think it's one of the happy-ending movies that I like.

This again starrs the girl from A Love to Kill. Suprisingly, she's pretty in this film.

The Scarlet Letter

The Scarlet Letter is a murder-mystery about tough detective who gets entangled in a mysterious homicide case. The victim is found with his skull smashed, and the only potential suspect is the man’s "perfect wife". The detective starts to suspect that the woman is having an affair. The detective is also married to a "perfect wife" who is chaste and devoted. His wife is pregnant, but that doesn't stop him from carrying on a steamy affair with a sultry nightclub singer. Things get even more complicated when the mistress learns she's also pregnant. In a strange twist, we later learn that both wife and mistress are old childhood friends. The story takes several unexpected turns and leads to a bizarre and tragic climax.
In real life, this movie also had a tragic ending. 'The Scarlet Letter' was poised to be a big hit the box office because of it's stellar cast and titillating plot, but the movie only grossed average revenues and was met with mixed reviews. Lee Eun-Joo, the lead actress, was a talented woman whose star was on the rise after her break out role in the mega hit Tagegukki. Her career was on the line when she agreed to take on this intense and sexually explicit role. The rumor was that she starved herself for the role because there were several semi-nude scenes where her back was exposed. Though her acting was critically acclaimed, Lee Eun-Joo was known to be mentally unstable. She suffered from bouts of depression after her mother racked up a huge gambling debt which the actress was forced to pay. Who knows what crazy things were going on behind the scenes of the real actress' life? Sometime after the movie was released, Lee Eunjoo was found hanging dead in her closet at home. The cause of death was suicide. Could her intense role in The Scarlet Letter have had something to do with her suicide? Nobody knows the answer, but she's left us with a haunting movie that we’ll never forget.

I haven't read the book which this movie is based from, so I couldn't judge it very well. I think the scene where the guy and his mistress had sex on the car's compartment which they end up being locked inside is an absolute outcome of their stupidity.

Erratum!

The movie that I mentioned on my Film Fest post "The Red Love Letter Box" is rightly known as Il Mare. Here's the movie poster and synopsis.

Eun-ju is moving out of her seafront apartment named Il Mare, which means "the sea" in Italian. She leaves a Christmas card for the next tenant. In the card she wishes the new tenant Merry Christmas, welcoming him/her to Il Mare. Eun-ju has another reason for leaving the Christmas card: she is expecting an important letter, and leaves her new address so that the new tenant can re-direct her mail. At the end of the card she signs her name, and dates the card 1999.

Sung-Hyun moves into an empty house, he lays a block to spray the name of the house that he has just called home Il Mare. He discovers the card that Eun-ju has left behind, and is confused by the letter as he is currently in 1997. He writes back to Eun-ju, politely suggesting that she may have made a mistake as he is the first tenant of Il Mare, and he is unable to assist her in her request, and dates the letter 1997.

After further correspondence, both Eun-ju and Sung-Hyun realize that they are corresponding on same dates but over 2 different time dimensions, aided by the magical mailbox. And both embark on an amazing journey together.

Sung-Hyun is an architecture undergraduate dropout, punishing himself with self-exile because of a failed relationship with his father. While working as a construction worker by day, he holes up in Il Mare during the night. Eun-ju is a voice-over artist for children shows, and is trying to come to grips with a failed relationship. 2 lonely souls, connected via Il Mare, and the magical mailbox start corresponding and find solace in each other's letters.

Unlike many movies that feature such themes, where the leads either never meet or meet at the end, Sung-Hyun is able to catch a glimpse of how Eun-ju looks like in 1997 as the time difference is only 2 years and with Eun-ju diligently keeping a dairy, However, Sung-Hyun is just a stranger to the Eun-ju of 1997.

When both decide that it is time to meet at the same time dimension, it will have meant a fruition of their relationship. However, Sung-Hyun did not show up on the agreed date, and both are puzzled why he missed the appointment, and started to wonder what happened to Sung-Hyun during those 2 years.

And then, Eun-ju bumps into her ex-fiance. All the emotions she felt for him resurfaced as painful memories of the times together flood her entire brain. And in a desperate attempt to get her ex-fiancé back, she writes to Sung-Hyun to help her. Devastated by Eun-ju's request, Sung-Hyun is thrown back into the darkness that he left. He has fallen in love with Eun-ju, and her letters and encouragement have lifted him. After struggling for a while, seeing Eun-ju's happy relationship with her ex-fiance in 1998, and realising that his relationship with Eun-ju's will never be, Sung-Hyun decides to help her.

Sung-Hyun writes his last letter to Eun-ju, agreeing to help. He thanks Eun-ju for coming into his life, and bids his final farewell in the letter.

On the day in 1998 that Sung-Hyun is supposed to help Eun-ju to stop her ex-fiance from leaving, Eun-ju in 2000 finds out that Sung-Hyun actually died in a car accident on his way to help her. Overwhelmed by the thought that Sung-Hyun died for her, Eun-ju rushes to Il Mare to stop Sung-Hyun. She leaves her last letter in the mailbox, kneels and prays that Sung-Hyun receives the letter……
